Libraries

Welcome to Council's Library Service

Council supplies a range of library services for Southland residents, whether it be at the local library or on the mobile book bus. There are libraries at Winton, Te Anau, Lumsden, Riverton, Otautau, Wyndham, Stewart Island, Tuatapere and Nightcaps, all of which have regular hours and are staffed by experienced librarians. Smaller libraries are situated at Dipton, Manapouri, Gropers Bush and Ohai, and have locally arranged opening hours.

All our libraries are home to, or have access to, a wide selection of health, family, sporting, cultural, historical or general interest material.

Southland District libraries have material in a variety of formats, including large print, audio or video. If you require a particular format, please talk to our library staff. Books are loaned free of charge and a small charge is placed on jigsaws, children's audio books, reserves, interloans, and videos/DVDs.
