Climate Change Milestone Reports

Southland District Council joined up to the Communities for Climate Protection Programme at the end of 2005.  This programme is run by ICLEI (Local Governments for Sustainability) and its aim is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from Council’s activities and in the Community.

There are 5 stages (called Milestones) in the programme and Southland District Council has completed Milestones 1, 2 and 3. The reports are below:

Milestone 1 – Conduct an inventory and forecast for Corporate (Council) and Community greenhouse gas emissions.

Deputy Mayor Jim Copland being awarded Milestone 1.Milestone 2 – Goals are set to reduce emissions.

Milestone 3 – An action plan is developed for achieving the goals set out in Milestone 2.

Milestone 4 – The actions in the plan are implemented.

Milestone 5 – Progress towards achieving the goals are monitored by completing an inventory as in Milestone 1.
